University of Sheffield於1905年成立，前身是1828年成立的雪菲爾醫學院。大學為英國六所「紅磚」高等學府之一，也是Russell Group成員之一。University of Sheffield的規模與聲譽不斷提高，躋身於蜚聲海外的高等學府之列，成為英國最受海外學生歡迎的5所大學之一，並且是英國眾多百年大學中，最具國際聲望的名校之一。在Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2019 排行全英第25名，在QS世界大學排名為82名。
